ALL CONSIGNORS MUST READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Updates effective 2008:

Shoes should be in like new condition and limited to 5 pairs per consignor.

Wire hangers are not mandatory but are preferred.

Consignors entering severely damaged items into the sale will not be permitted to participate in future sales.

Swings, Bouncies, and large toys must have batteries or be charged.  Items will be removed from the sales floor if not in working order.

We do not restrict the clothing that placed in the sale to a season.  However, we do suggest that consignors try to keep it seasonal.  This is in the best interest of the consignor.  Clothes that are not in season just do not sell well.  We will have a Spring/Summer and a Fall/Winter sale every year.  Place your items in the correct sale can improve your earnings.  This should definitely be considered with infant (0-3 month) clothing.  Most Shoppers just do not buy for a baby on-the-way 6-7 months in advance.

Please keep seasons in mind when selling maternity.  Most pregnant women will only buy what is the current season.  Short sleeve shirts are great for both sales, but with other items, buying ahead is difficult...as their size can change rapidly.  I know mine did!

Consignors use card stock paper.  Card stock paper is similar in thickness as an index card.  Card stock differs in weight…the heavier the weight you choose, the stronger your tags will be.  White card stock paper is preferred, but colored card stock is also accepted.

No plain paper tags.  The tags will not stay on your items.

You may hole punch at any location on the tag.  The area designated is fine; however, if the tag is punched farther from the edge, it is even more secure and less likely to tear off.  Some “seasoned” consignors have secured the hole punched areas with tape or adhesive rings used on notebook paper.  This is not required—just a great tip to pass on!

Carolina Kids Consignment uses a barcode tagging system.  The barcode represents the consignor number.  Handwritten consignor numbers are not utilized by the system.  Once you have registered, a link is placed on the website, allowing you to print your tags at any time.  CONSIGNOR NUMBERS WILL NOT CHANGE.  You will keep the same consignor number as long as you continue to participate in future sales.

·        Avoid changing or editing the computer format of the tags in any way.  This alters the barcode and the tags will not scan.

·        Print quality can also cause your tags not scan at the register.  If your tags look like the ink is running out—the tags will probably not scan.

·        Change the print quality in print setup to best or photo quality for an improved barcode image.  It can drastically improve the scan quality.

We can enter your tags manually, if any of these situations occur.  It just takes a little longer.  J

Use a cable or zip tie to secure the tag to the garment.  Safety pins should only be used as a last resort due to no other option.  Use a belt loop, button holes, or collar tag to attach the price tag.  Keep the tag on the front of the item.  Nylon cable ties are secure and assist in preventing lost tags.  This type of cable tie can be purchased at Home Improvements Stores, Wal-Mart, etc. (Check the electrical section or automotive!)

Why cable ties/zip ties??

If you use a string or a safety pin, it can be untied or taken off and the prices can be switched.  By using a cable or zip tie, the only way to take the tag off, is to tear it, making it impossible for someone to switch out tags.  The tags also stay on far better using the cable ties.

Be sure to include a good description.  Always include color, brand name, boys or girls.  This will help tremendously in the event a tag falls off!  Do not use S, M, or L sizes.  If a range is given for infant clothing-use the lower size.  (Ex. 3-6 months = 3 months)

If you are generously participating in the Donation program place a capital “D” in a circle on the top right corner of the tag.  Items NOT marked for donation, and NOT picked up are disposed at the discretion of Carolina Kids Consignment.  (Note:  Please do not write the "D" in a circle in Red ink--this will limit your earnings, due to customers not purchasing on the 50% off day.)  Also it is strongly advised that if you wish to donate your items that are left over...DO NOT price the items in red or circle in red, allowing your items to participate in the 50% off day will only improve your earnings.

Items specified for donation will be donated to Harbor, Inc. or Me Fine Foundation.

Items not specified for donation may be donated randomly (due to limited space) to other charities.  Carolina Kids Consignment may also elect to place items in the next sale under the ANGEL TREE consignor number, providing for needy children at Christmas.

50% off:  On the last day of the sale items are 50% off.  If you have items that you do not want priced 50% off, you must circle the price with a red marker or pen.  Items written in red ink are also excluded from the 50% off.

Prices must be in dollar increments.  (For example:  1.00, 2.00, 10.00)  Items priced with change increments are rounded down.  (For example:  1.50 would be rounded down to 1.00 at the register.)  Please price your items correctly to avoid rounding.

No mark-overs:  If you make a mistake when completing a tag—start a new tag.  Changes made to a tag make it unable to be sold.  For your security!  Also, always include “$” in front of your price.  This will prevent someone from turning a 12.00 item into a $2.00 item by changing the 1.

Better safe than sorry!

Safety pins may be used to help secure the item to the hangers—not to the tag.  (Hangers are not returnable.)  Cheap wire hangers are ideal, but any type of hanger is acceptable.  (Some dry cleaners may give you a deal!)   Please place all garments on the hanger positioned so that when looking at the front of the garment…the top of the hanger resembles a question mark.

*Safety Pins are recommended for two piece outfits.  The pins can be placed any where attaching the two pieces together.  This way if one slips off the hanger…the items will still remain together.

Shoes:  Small shoes should be secured in a zip lock bag.  If the shoes will not fit in a zip lock bag they should be secured together with a cable tie.  5 pairs of shoes per consigor limit.

Zip lock bags are also ideal for small items:  Onesies, bibs, towels, wash cloths, small toys, feeding utensils, hair bows, socks, gloves, etc.   Tape the tag to the bag.  It is also suggested that you tape over the opening of the bag to prevent it from being opened prior to purchase.

We cannot accept the following items:

Out of date clothing, stained, torn, or just worn out.  These items will NOT sell, it is a waste of time for consignors to tag these items.  These items take up space that is needed.  We reserve the right to remove items of poor quality from display.

Items with missing buttons or zippers.

No underwear

Car seats that are older than 2005.  Car seats must have a visible sticker with the mfg. year.  Check recalls at 1-888-327-4236.

Battery operated toys with dead batteries.

Junior Clothing:

Please keep junior clothing to name brand items.  You know how kids are…if it isn’t name brand it is hard to get them to wear it.  Suggested brands:  “American Eagle”, “Aeropostale”, ”Gap”, “Old Navy”, “Banana Republic”, “Ambercrombie”, “Express”, Hollister”, “Mudd”, etc.  Because adult sizes and junior sizes often times overlap…adult sizes in like brands can be accepted.

Formal and Pageant Attire of all age groups is also accepted.

Household furniture can be accepted with prior approval (due to space) and Household items are also accepted.

You will need to schedule a drop off day (See EVENT DATES for times available). At this time, you may complete this by simply emailing your requested time to ContactCKCsale@aol.com or by calling 919-207-1300.

A self addressed stamped envelope is NO LONGER NEEDED, however, you will need to make us aware of any address changes at drop off.  This is very important.  We need your check to go to the right location.

When bringing your items, please plan to help put the items out.  If you are not able to help, we will arrange putting your items out for you.  However, we do ask that your items be pre-sorted by size and gender.

For individuals without internet access, a printout of your tags will be sent by mail.  The printout can be copied onto card stock paper at any office supply/copy store.

Notes:

Hangers are not provided.

Please keep the following in mind when tagging your items.  Merchandising is very important.  Items that are displayed together are easier to find.  If you have a clothing item that can be displayed on a hanger…it should be placed on a hanger.  Bathing Suits, Pants, Pajamas, shorts, etc. should be placed on a hanger.

Also, when selecting your items to bring to the sale, you should always have a donation box close by.  If the item is not an item that you would purchase—it is probably not suitable for the consignment sale.

Please plan to pick up your items during the pick up times.  Unfortunately, we have a limited amount of time to sort and clean out the facility.  Consignors that do not arrive for pick up will not be able to claim their items after the pick up day.  Items are immediately sent to donation.

All consignor accounts will be reconciled and payments sent within 10 business days following the sale.  A $7.00 consignor fee is deducted from the final check.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We look forward to meeting you.
